call for applications

what:

To celebrate the cold and in spite of the recession, CUBE is hosting RAINY DAYS, a group exhibition open to all artists.

 

Any person may apply for inclusion in the show (see below for application instructions), successful applicants will be provided with a ‘kit’ from which they will create their exhibition piece. To launch RAINY DAYS there will be an opening night with celebratory drinks, all work will be available for purchase from opening night, remaining work will hang for one week after.

 

Artists are encouraged to think creatively about the surface they are given and to explore interesting and unusual media.

 

rules:

-        Artists may apply for multiple kits but inclusion in the exhibition is at the gallery’s discretion.

-        Entry fee is non-refundable

-        The artist keeps 80% of sales, payable at the close of the exhibition, retail price of artworks is to be decided by the artist.

-        The gallery keeps 20% of sales.

-        Artists must supply a detailed explanation of materials used.

-        Each work must be signed by the artist (wherever you choose)

-        Unsold artwork remains the property of the artist

(03)62 347848. Registrations must be lodged by Saturday 12^th June, kits will be available for collection shortly after (you will be notified of the collection date, kits may be posted to applicants for a small postal fee).

 

kits:

1x mini canvas, approx 10cm x 10cm and 3.8cm deep (profile)

 

costs:

Registration fee is $20 per applicant, non-refundable. Included in the registration fee are the opening night costs for the exhibition, including invitation printing (you will be given some for personal distribution), postage, hire fees and drinks.

 

dates:

June 12^th – Registration deadline

July 9^th – Deadline for your artworks

July 16^th – Rainy Days opening night

July 24^th – Rainy Days closing date

As part of Design Island 2009 CUBE presents Surface , a joint exhibition between Tasmanian artists Luke Wagner and John Hounslow.

Luke Wagner’s paintings explore how we engage with the Tasmanian landscape. Wagner utilises form and texture to convey the complexity of our environment, the result is a selection of work sculptural in effect.

In contrast, Tasmanian metallurgist John Hounslow brings together a  selection of fine and functional forge-weld designs. Hounslow specialises in the art of Damascus forging and is the leading Tasmanian artisan in his discipline.

In Surface, Jemima Boyer brings together three Tasmanians with very different approaches to the natural world: Luke Wagner’s paintings explore a relationship with the Tasmanian landscape that is in sharp contrast with John Hounslow’s selection of fine jewellery and hand-forged steel knives and Ali Pyrke’s poetic, nest-inspired fashion designs.

Disconnected
Ali Pyrke + Sabrina Evans
Evolving over city blocks and displayed in unexpected places, Evans and Pyrke each present new work investigating the parameters of fashion—how it connects and disconnects in the continual pursuit of identity and self expression.

Flatland OK has landed at Cube

Flatland Ok from Tim Fleming is now on show in the new gallery space, together with a new range of groovy Australian-made jewellery and arts. The gallery is growing daily, so be sure to swing by and check out the new space.
